Bike Parade!

Today was Redmond's 72nd annual Derby Day's Bike parade. My boys love to ride their bikes and look forward to this fun event every year. All of the children arrive, bikes decorated, and ride through the parade route before the "real" parade begins. Of course, which part is the "real" parade is definitely up for debate. It's great seeing all the little ones so excited to show off their decorated bikes, scooters, wagons, and strollers. At the end of the parade each child gets two one dollar coins too, and I don't know about other children, but money is a huge fascination for my kids. Josiah, especially, has always been obsessed with money, and saved up to buy his first stuffed dog from the Disney store when he was only three years old. You can only imagine the excitement of receiving two dollars for showing off riding his bike. :)
Once everyone is good and tired from riding in the parade, we pick out a nice spot on the lawn and listen to a few local artists and have lunch. There are also a bunch of booths set up to walk around and enjoy. It's a really fun and relaxing day for the most part.
This year the weather could not have been better! It was slightly over cast, warm, and what everyone around  here has been calling "terribly muggy". I, for one, couldn't be more thrilled with this so called mugginess. It even sprinkled a tiny bit of warm rain. Perfect, I tell ya, perfect! You might think I'm crazy, but we just don't get weather like this in Washington. In fact, for the first time I can ever remember, we had a thunder storm that lasted on and off all day yesterday. I swear I am a Southern girl at heart, and my kids have a bit of it in them as well. We love a good storm. While most Washington kids woke up in the morning and were scared with the strange loud booming noise, mine ran straight for the window and were jumping on the couch with excitement for them they could see the next flash! It was great! Again, I think it was the first ever that we've had a storm where my windows were open with a fan in them to cool off the house. Storms are usually associated with coldness here. Needless to say, I've been pretty happy.
ow, so anyway, back to the parade. Here are a few pictures for your viewing pleasure. :)

Josiah before the parade...
 Noah before the parade...
Me and Deborah Joy before the parade. You'll have to excuse my awkward posture. I fell and sprained both of my ankles two days ago. Very unpleasant!
Me...
Tickled pink to finally be in the parade, after all the waiting!

They always have a huge pile of sand they truck in for the kids to play with while listening to the bands. It's such a great idea, and it kept the kids happy for hours! Deborah loves to dig! She will spend all day filling up her bucket and emptying it, only to start again.
Here is a sweet sweet (sweet!!!) moment I caught of Noah loving on his big sister. The bond these children have developed is simply amazing! So beautiful to watch their sibling love grow for each other.
 A loving kiss!
And our day wouldn't have been complete without a picture with the pirates! Josiah was a bit apprehensive, but in the end he came around!
I hope you are all enjoying your summer just as much as we are!
