Early this week, the Ethiopian government make the sad decision to cut the number of children leaving Ethiopia by 90%. Their decision is twofold. There is believed to be a lot of unethical behavior concerning adoption going on in Ethiopia, and this will give them a better opportunity to investigate each and every case to it's fullest to make sure the children really have no family to take care of them in Ethiopia. The second reason is a bit more frustrating...to me anyway. This is a way of letting everyone know that they want more staff. I understand the first reason, and support them making sure these children's cases are handled with the highest ethics.
That being said, we still don't know how much of this decision is actually going to effect our personal case. Quite a few people have dropped out of the Ethiopian adoption program. Probably to OUR benefit, but I worry about all the other children waiting for their forever family.
Right now, we are waiting to see if any more information comes out. I heard a small rumor that there may be some news (possibly good?) coming out soon.
Until then, we are praying hard for our little girl. God has a plan for her. God has a plan for us. We will choose to trust His plan for us all.
We are thankful they've not stopped adoptions all together.
I will be blogging more as the news comes out. Until then, please pray that things will smooth out soon! Pray for these children that need loving homes. Pray for all of the families heartbroken by this decision. Pray that only good will come out of this, and children's cases will be handled ethically. Just pray.
